Making the Signature Wood-Henge Creation Number 482, Fusion Gold Cavern

All the shaping steps are done totally by hand using various pieces of sanding equipment.

The original block of wood

After the initial shaping - Adding the main curves

After rounding the Ends - Adding the "Shoulders"

The piece has now had its rough shaping and is ready for refinement

This Wood-Henge is now sanded by hand using 4 different sanding drums with 400 to 2000 grit sandpapers. In this step, a slight bevel is also added to the sides of the piece. All proportions are checked and it is closely inspected to make sure everything is straight and square. The next hand polishing stage will not correct any proportion problems.

The final stage of hand polishing is the most time consuming. No finish is added! I do it at night while watching TV! The piece is polished using special micro mesh pads, which have grits ranging from 1500 to 12,000. I am literally polishing the wood's cells and resins for a long lasting, all natural finish. This piece also has a small amount of acrylic, which is polished using s dremel and two levels of plastic fine scratch remover. These photos show the final product.
